According to halakha, the mezuzah is written on parchment and is inscribed with Deuteronomy 6:4–9 and 11:13–21. The name “Shadday” (Almighty) traditionally appears on the back of the mezuzah. The other names of God written on the back are encrypted by a shift cipher.
