A Torah mantle made of brownish-red woollen twill. The upper part of the mantle contains the Torah crown motif, which is executed in braid, and a five-line Hebrew dedicatory inscription including the date: “C(rown) of T(orah). This was donated by the leader Moses, son of David, of blessed memory, and his wife Gitl, long may she live, in the year 451 according to the minor era (= 1691).” Beneath the inscription is a remarkable motif of the Star of David in a circle. The mantle was originally bordered and divided by a silver braid. The remains of silk fringes are evident along the sides.
The map shows the location of all the sites where the genizah items in the collections of the Jewish Museum in Prague were discovered (finds from other sites, such as Ivančice and Pacov, are not in the museum’s collections). Representative genizah items from each location are gradually being added to the museum’s website. Complete sets of genizah items can be found in the museum’s catalogue at collections.jewishmuseum.cz.
