Textiles that are not in direct contact with the Torah scroll, such as Torah ark curtains and valances, are rarely placed in genizot – and are all the more valuable as a result. The Torah ark curtain covers the holy ark, where the scrolls are kept; above it hangs the valance. Both of these textiles are richly decorated.
