Group of objects: Personal textiles

In addition to footwear, a large amount of personal clothing of a non-ritual nature has been discovered in genizot. The practice of setting aside caps, hats, and items of women’s or children’s garments is not supported by written sources and, according to the available information, does not commonly occur in all genizot. It may have been a regional custom, and here too one may assume that it was influenced by the local non-Jewish population.
